Safeguarding Adult Reviews

This chapter was added to the manual in July 2015.

Please refer to your own LSAB website for up to date information:

Currently there is no Pan Lancashire and Cumbria Safeguarding Adult Review process available but these procedures will be updated accordingly. Please refer to your own Boards should further local information be required at this time.

Under the Care Act (2014), Safeguarding Adult Boards are responsible for Safeguarding Adult Reviews (SARs) when an adult in its area:

  • Dies as a result of abuse or neglect, whether known or suspected, and there is concern that partner agencies could have worked more effectively to protect the adult or
  • If an adult has not died but the Safeguarding Adult Board knows or suspects that the adult has experienced serious abuse or neglect.

The Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) has produced Safeguarding Adult Reviews under the Care Act: implementation support. This alongside the Care Act (2014) and Care & Support Statutory Guidance (2014) will be used to develop an agreed process.
